We had the pleasure of attending the wedding of our friends Kimble+Eri in Honolulu, Hawaii over the weekend. Eri is born and raised in Hawaii and Kimble graduated from Harvard along with my wife. Of course I took 1 camera body and 1 lens along to make a few images while we were there. Thanks for taking a look!

Teddy Pendergrass Funeral

We were contacted by an agency to cover the funeral of Teddy Pendergrass in Philadephia on Saturday January 23. Pendergrass is best known as the singer of “If You Don’t Know Me By Now” and other hits. He died Jan. 13 at age 59 after a battle with colon cancer.

A 200-member gospel choir jubilated with high-decibel exultation while a band and a sternum-vibrating organ roused the estimated 4,000 people who filled mammoth Enon Tabernacle Baptist Church on Cheltenham Avenue, the biggest African American church in Philadelphia.

Pete Carroll leaves USC for Seattle

Pete Carroll has resigned at USC and is headed back to the NFL with the Seattle Seahawks. We covered USC in 2002 when they played against Virginia Tech at FedEx Field…so a quick search of the archives pulled up these images…

2009 2K Sports Classic

I love shooting basketball and every year we work with the Gazelle Group out of Princeton, NJ to cover a series of early season tournaments. The biggest of the tournaments in the 2K Sports Classic benefiting Coaches vs Cancer where the final games are held at Madison Square Garden in New York.

No. 24 Syracuse got 25 points and eight rebounds from Wesley Johnson and used a 20-3 run to start the second half en route to an 87-71 win over No. 4 North Carolina to claim the 15th annual 2K Sports Classic benefiting Coaches vs. Cancer.

Johnson, who was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player, was joined by four teammates in double figures. Arinze Onuaku had 15 points and seven rebounds, Kris Joseph posted 12 points and seven boards, Andy Rautins added 11 points, seven rebounds and seven assists, and Brandon Triche scored 11 points.

The Tar Heels were paced by Ed Davis and his 16 points and 10 caroms. Marcus Ginyard registered 15 points and eight rebounds, and Deon Thompson had 11 points and seven boards.

Looking back into my first few years as a professional photographer I found some early images of Kevin Durant when he was in High School at National Christian Academy as well as when he was a SUPER FRESHMAN at Texas. Kevin won almost every award imaginable and received tons of accolades…ESPN analyst Dick Vitale praised Durant as the “most prolific offensive skilled big perimeter” ever. Strong words for a skinny kid huh?

One of my favorite images was of Kevin grabbing a rebound against Life Center (NJ) during a game played at St. Joseph’s University on December 23, 2003…this image won the “SportsShooter.com Clip Contest” for December 2003. The funny thing…that’s the ONLY contest I’ve ever entered.

1SG (Ret) Veronica Kelly: From Boots…To Pumps

We were hired to provide photographic coverage of the retirement party for 1SG Veronica Kelly over the weekend. This was such a great event. Veronica was the brain-child behind all the design and decoration and I was totally amazed when she told me that she was not a professional event planner -SHE SHOULD BE!!! She covered ALL of the details, from really cute “Save the Dates” to the chair backs to some AWESOME meatballs!!!

Congratulations Veronica!!! I want to personally say THANK YOU for serving my country for 22 years!!!

SPOTLIGHT: Blake Griffin, All-American

Blake Griffin definitely exceeded expectations in his initial college season, going from borderline McDonald’s All-American to one of the top freshmen in the NCAA in a very short span, reaching the point that it was a bit of a surprise that he even decided to return for his sophomore campaign. Very few could have faulted him if he did actually, as it’s widely accepted that he would have been a top-10 pick (possibly even top-5) had he decided to come out. Considering the repeated knee problems that he suffered from as a freshman, the jury is still out on whether or not he made the right call as far as his long-term future is concerned.

Our friend, Craig Mitchelldyer, was featured on the International Society of Professional Wedding Photographers website this month and a couple of images from our wedding were displayed prominently in the article.
